The incident which happened today morning as I was returning home from college shook me up.There was a huge crowd near a very popular clothing store, the reason being all the hand embroidered clothing were being sold for a mere price of Rs.50. No wonder everybody wanted to cash in on the tempting offer.. I decided to peep in the store and check the clothing for myself. I was awestruck by its amazing craftsmanship . Wondering why such a cloth would be sold for such a meagre price, i decided to ask the vendor. The answer he gave me shook me.
He said these were hand embroidered by children of age group 7-14 and their labour charge was nearly half than that of the selling price.. Child Labour!
Its shocking to hear about child labour at this time and age when India is soaring great heights and a bunch of Bangalorean students are launching a sattelite into space all by themselves..How can such a cruelty occur to the children of the same city when thier counter-parts are soaring high in every field??
The government has abolished child labour through the Child Labour Act and yet things like this happen and we are left helpless. Can nobody help these kids? Is thier future as dark as it was a decade ago??

Hi Chaitra :) Nice to see u markin a territory on the blogosphere :) Wanted to see u here for quite smetime, actually!
ReplyDeletegud that u ve started :)
Hmmmm.. as far as the Topic on disc goes, its a very very delicate issue and in most of the cases a catch-22 situation.... parents actually force their children to work!! and thats the ground reality!
The root of the cause is definetly Poverty, and we need to do wat evr we can to educate the parents nt to indulge on killing the future of their own blood... their own kids!!!!!
Thanku Varun.. :) I completely agree with you that the cause of the problem is poverty but i am unsure about how effective educating them will be.. coz most of them have the " So What " attitude .. We need to wake them up to harsh reality and change it their attitude to "What if.." :)
